Open Athens and Jisc resources
Open Athens provides many services including SSO authentication solutions.
Some Open Athens subscribers will have an Open Athens Portal, which will act as a central hub to all the services the organisation is using Open Athens to access.
Many services are compatible with Open Athens SSO IDP login solutions, for a full list see openathens.net/resources.php
To see if your organisation uses Open Athens, see login.openathens.net/org-list
Note: if your organisation doesn’t use Open Athens then they will probably be using Shibboleth, for a list of UK Federated Access Management IDs see ukfederation.org.uk/content/Documents/IdPInfoList
Open Athens portal
Make sure your organisation has undergone the Open Athens onboarding steps.
Step 3 asks you to “Activate your resources”, they request you send the following information:
We will need this information for each resource:
- Link to the database
- Names of the database
- Content provider name
- Content provider email
- Highlight the most important resources for you so we can start with those
You may send this as a table / excel sheet as you will have many resources and services to notify them of; the following is for the VLR services (using the names they use on their resource list):
