Who can access Jisc FE services?
Answer: Jisc FE members can access hairdressing training and Jisc’s e-books for FE as part of their core membership. In addition to the core services, there are optional services which are available at a cost, these include construction training, digital and IT training, education and childcare training, hairdresssing training and health and social care training.
Can more than one learner access the same resource on a service?
Answer: Yes, there is no limit on how many learners can access a resource at any given time.
How should the resources be used?
Answer: The resources can be used in many ways, here are a few of our suggestions:
- In lessons as part of an activity
- Lesson preparation (Flipped learning)
- Revision and self-study
Where can I download the curriculum support information?
Answer: The curriculum supporting documents can be found on each of the service sites. You can also find them below:

How can we see the usage statistics for services we are subscribed to?
Answer: If you have a my.jisc account you will see your usage figures and subscriptions there, alternatively request them from the FE and skills team through email@example.com
What is a Peppercorn Payment?
Answer: We are often approached for an explanation of peppercorn payments and what this means for organisations. A ‘peppercorn payment’ is a legal device that ensures there is consideration in a contract and that as a result the contract is valid – further information can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppercorn_(legal).
We haven’t got federated access management, how can we access the services?
Answer: Health and social care training, education and childcare training, construction training and digital and IT training require federated access management.
Hairdressing training does not require federated access management.
The use of federated access management and the software available to support its implementation provide significant benefits to several user-groups:
- For the user: single sign-on using an organisational ID and password, and assurance that personal data will not be disclosed to third parties.
- For the librarian: freedom from the burden of username/password administration and new tools for managing licences and service subscriptions.
- For the IT manager: more control of the access management process through enhancements to enterprise directories, although this will require additional organisational effort in the short term.
- For the organisation: a single service to meet the requirements of e-learning, e-research and library-managed resources.

What are the vocational learning resource system requirements?
Answer: The services are supported by the following web browsers: Internet Explorer Firefox, Safari, Chrome.
Before you begin, check your browser for the following:
- Cookies are enabled
- Latest version of web browser updated
Can we apply IP Restrictions?
Answer: No, the authentication system for the vocational services does not allow IP restrictions to be put in place. The services will be available at home and on campus to any learner or staff member of a subscribed organisation.
